Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor Innovation Awards 2017

Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor Innovation Awards (PPTIA) instituted in year 2015 by SCMS School of Engineering and Technology, Kerala, India is a global event held annually with an aim to identify, recognize and celebrate innovative ideas and applications to tackle issues and challenges faced by society.

The first two editions of PPTIA (PPTIA 2015 & 2016) received overwhelming response from student teams who used their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to present ideas and create applications for the benefit of industry and society. With around 200 creative proposals received in both the years, a panel of globally recognized twenty innovation experts was tasked with selecting the most innovative teams and ideas separately each year.

The competition is organised in association with Vodafone and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam University (KTU) with technical support from Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology (SSET), Karukutty, Ernakulam, Kerala, KSIDC, Kerala StartUp Mission and ICT Academy..

We invite clear and fresh innovative ideas, having a real possibility of impacting the greater good, with a strong focus and chance of success and to become best products and practices

School Level

The prize money for the school level is:
Winner : Rs. 50,000 / US $ 750
Runner-up: Rs. 25,000 / US $ 375

College Level

The prize money for the college level is:
Winner : Rs. 1 Lakh / US $ 1500
Runner-up : Rs. 50,000 / US $ 750

Competition will be conducted in two categories- School Level and College Level. Students from all over the globe are invited to participate.

Projects done as part of curriculum and those presented elsewhere cannot be submitted.

Interested participants should provide a summary of their innovative idea which can be commercialized.

Based on the feasibility, novelty and social relevance, 15 Semi-finalists from College category and 20 Semi-finalists from School Category will be selected by an expert panel.

Semifinalists from school and college will be given opportunity to exhibit their project and interact with a panel of judges to defend their project.

From among these, 5 finalists in each category will be selected who can grab a chance to compete for the coveted “Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor Innovation Awards”.

The prize money for the college level is: Rs. 1 lakh (Winner) and Rs. 50,000 (runner-up), and for the school level is Rs. 50,000 (Winner) and Rs. 25,000 (runner-up).

Remaining finalists and semi finalists in each category will share a total prize money of Rs. 80,000 based on quality and viability of the project.

Who Can Compete?

Category 1: College Level – Students of Engineering colleges around the world.
Category 2: School Level- High School Students (8th to 10th) and Higher secondary school Students (Plus one and Plus Two) around the world.

What's the Team Size?

1 to 5 members per team. A team can submit as many as three ideas but present only one project.The team members cannot be changed during the competition.

Scope and Objectives of the project/ idea (30-75 words).

Overall approach including Methodology/ Procedure/ Process of the Project (75-100 words)

A description of the project with emphasis on the feasibility, social relevance and commercial viability. It should be between 450 words to 600 words.

Brief explanation on how this project/ idea will present novel (new) or additive information to the existing practice.

Financial estimate of the project.

An affidavit on the originality of the idea/ project.


Judging Criteria for Abstracts

The abstract submitted by the participants will be judged by an expert panel. The judges will be looking into the:

  • Novelty

  • Demonstrated creativity and originality

  • Technical merit

  • Viability

  • Commercialization strategy

  • Implementation feasibility with supporting evidences, if any of the ideas, products or services showcased.
